Police are reportedly investigating the cause of death of a 48-year-old Australian man, who was found dead in a hotel room in Seminyak yesterday.

The man, identified by his initials CS, was found lying on the bed after failing to check-out on time from the hotel that same day.

Ni Nyoman Ermy Setiari, an official from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in Badung regency, told Detik that the “Do Not Disturb” sign was hanging from his door and there had been no response when the hotel staff first knocked on the door.

“Then the witness, along with other witnesses, opened the room with their master key, but it was still locked from the inside. So the general manager ordered the staff to enter the room from the window,” Ermy said.

According to reports, they found CS lying on his bed and proceeded to report the matter to authorities, who arrived in protective suits and evacuated the deceased according to COVID-19 protocols as a precaution.

Denpasar Police Chief Jansen Aviatus Panjaitan told Detik that the COVID-19 task force is on the case to confirm whether or not he was infected with the coronavirus.

“Once he is confirmed to be [COVID-19] negative, we will investigate further, but now we are already doing preliminary investigation and questioning witnesses there,” Jansen said.

Last week, a Ukrainian couple was found dead at an apartment in Kedonganan sub-district in Badung, and were evacuated with COVID-19 protocol as well. Police have yet to announce their cause of death, but confirmed that they did not test positive for the coronavirus.
