Local authorities, reportedly while on patrol to curb the spread of COVID-19, apprehended eight sex workers who were soliciting on the Bung Tomo Street in Denpasar earlier this week.

“We conducted a sex worker raid as a follow-up to complaints from local residents about preventing the spread of COVID-19 [and] HIV/AIDS,” Anom Sayoga, who heads the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) in Denpasar,

Sayoga explained that based on an official advisory, a 9pm curfew is currently in place and that Satpol PP officers had found the sex workers out and about past the cut off time, as they were looking for potential clients.

The sex workers were subsequently apprehended and were later taken to Gilimanuk Port so they can return to their hometowns in Banyuwangi, East Java.

As reported by Kompas, eight buskers were also apprehended during the occasion, similarly as a follow-up to complaints from the local residents.
