Pretty Little Liars, the hugely popular American TV teen drama that ran from 2010-2017, is getting an Indonesian-language remake filmed on the tropical island of Bali.

Viu, a Hong Kong-based streaming service available throughout Asia and the Middle East, will be producing the series for their service in conjunction with Warner Bros.

International Television Production.

It looks like the Indonesian adaptation will hew quite closely to the plot of the US original. As described in a press release announcing the project, “… the series follows a group of four estranged undergrads whose group had fallen apart when their former leader went missing. The girls come back together in the face of danger, when they begin receiving messages from a mysterious figure known as “A”, who threatens to expose their darkest secrets.”

The series will be set in the fictional town of Amerta and will be filmed entirely on-site in Bali. It will be directed by Indonesian filmmaker Emil Heradi, who directed the 2017 film Night Bus and was a second unit director on Eat, Pray, Love starring Julia Roberts.

The cast will feature Indonesian actresses Anya Geraldine, Valerie Thomas, Yuki Kato and Malaysian actress Eyka Farhana. The series is expected to begin airing late this year.
