An elderly Australian tourist reportedly died in a motorbike accident yesterday afternoon in Buleleng regency after a speeding truck crashed into his vehicle.

The tourist, identified as Peter Zipser, 69, was riding his motorbike with his wife during the incident.

A witness told Radar Bali that Zipser slowed his motorbike down and signaled that he was going to make a turn when the truck hit his vehicle.

“The motorbike driver was already slowing down as he was about to make a right turn, and he also gave a light signal. The distance between the vehicles were much too short, and the truck happens to be speeding, so it hit the motorbike,” the witness, identified as Putu Putra, said.

The truck also reportedly hit another motorcycle, causing it to hit another car situated in front of it on the road. Zipser and the other motorbike driver were thrown from their vehicles.

Putu Diah Kurniawandari from the Buleleng Police said that Zipser died after suffering heavy injuries, while the other rider – presumably his wife – survived but had also suffered injuries. As reported by Radar Bali, Zipser was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

“The deceased is at Parama Sidhi Singaraja General Hospital for the time being, while the injured victim is undergoing treatment at Santi Graha Seririt General Hospital,” she said.
