Chinese, Australian and Indian tourists lead the number of foreign tourists visiting Bali
Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport welcomed nearly 2.4 million foreign tourists between January and May of this year, most of whom were from China, Australia and India.
“The countries contributing the most number of tourists are still the same as January-April 2019, first is China, followed by Australia and India,” General Manager of Angkasa Pura I, Haruman Sulaksono, said yesterday, as quoted by state news agency Antara.
Chinese tourists make up a total of 519,341 foreign tourist arrivals in Ngurah Rai, followed by Australia with 439,412 visitors, and India with 151,959 visitors.
According to Haruman, the number of foreign tourists recorded this year showcase an increase of around 2% compared to the same period last year, with 2,383,998 visitors.
In 2018, there were more than six million foreign tourists visiting the Island of the Gods, according to data from the Bali chapter of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).
Haruman said a number of airlines are expected to launch new flight routes to Bali soon, expressing hope that it will further increase the number of foreign visitors to the island.
In May, Ngurah Rai International Airport welcomed a new route between Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam and Bali via international low-cost airline VietJet Air.
“We hope that it may serve as a catalyst to further boost the number of Vietnamese tourists, and other tourists from the Indochina region to Bali,” Haruman said.
