Man from Sumba reportedly killed in drunken fight involving 12 men in Denpasar
A man from Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara, has reportedly died as a result of a fight that broke out among a dozen men, who were all allegedly drunk, on Saturday evening in south Denpasar.
“The fight involved about 12 men, those from West Sumba got into a fight with others from East Sumba and they had been under the influence of liquor,” Chief of South Denpasar Police, Nyoman Wirajaya, told Kompas.com.
Wirajaya added that a man identified as Dominggus Dapa was stabbed in the stomach during the fight and did not survive his injuries. As reported by Kompas, Dominggus has been brought to a local hospital for autopsy.
“They were drinking liquor, and then lost control. Under such circumstances, they hardly knew who were friends and who were enemies,” Wirajaya added, as quoted by Tribun-Bali.
Two men have been arrested in connection with Saturday’s stabbing and police said they could both potentially be declared suspects in the case. Authorities have questioned witnesses and are reportedly still looking for the murder weapon.
According to a report from Nusa Bali, Dominggus had only been living in Bali for the past five months. He had been working in a supply shop in Denpasar, after moving from Malang, East Java.
This was far from the first large-scale drunken brawl in Bali, even this year. In February, drunken thugs armed with wooden beams surrounded and threatened police officers on patrol in the Kerobokan area.
