Elderly Canadian tourist plunges to his death at luxurious Karangasem resort
A 70-year-old Canadian tourist, Beauchamp Gaston, tragically died after falling from the third floor of a luxury villa in Karangasem yesterday.
Gaston was staying at the Bayshore Villa, a resort that is described by local media for its stunning views and high-end amenities.
The deluxe room where Gaston and his wife were staying reportedly costs IDR7.7 million (US$491) per night.
“Gaston’s wife, Guerin Manon, informed villa staff that she had sent her husband to the bathroom around 3am. When she woke up at 6:30am, she could not find him in their room,” said Karangasem Police spokesman I Gede Sukadana, as quoted by DetikBali.
“She searched for him herself but couldn’t find him. Then, she contacted the villa to report him missing.”
A subsequent search led villa staff to discover Gaston’s sandals floating in a river near the resort. Upon closer inspection, they found Gaston’s body submerged in the water, seated upright. The authorities were immediately notified.
Police suspect that Gaston fell from the villa’s rooftop, which is approximately 10 meters high. The autopsy revealed several injuries, including facial bruises and a fractured right thigh.
Local reports say that Gaston’s body has been transferred to Karangasem General Hospital for further investigation. The cause of the fall is still unknown.
The management of Bayshore Villa has not yet released a statement regarding the incident.
