Nine graves in a cemetery in Buleleng were reportedly destroyed on Wednesday with police now launching an investigation to find the perpetrators.

Buleleng Police spokesman Gede Sumarjaya confirmed the incident today, adding that the public cemetery is located in Gerokgak Village.

“[We] suspect the graves were demolished,” he said, adding the graves that were excavated were quite old and the digging occurred between two and three days ago.

A witness, 51-year-old Gede Sukadana, was the first to find the excavated graves yesterday at around 5pm. He immediately alerted the authorities.

The police have not been able to confirm whether the bodies were still inside the graves or not as the case was still under investigation per this article’s publication.
