A 33-year-old woman from Russia and her 3-year-old child were deported from Bali yesterday evening after overstaying their visas, officials said.

The woman’s husband reportedly convinced them that he would take care of their visa documents for months, before he went AWOL.

The woman has been identified by her initials LN, while her daughter’s initials are VN. Officials say they arrived in Bali with LN’s husband, SAN, on July 24, 2019. At the time, they arrived with tourist visas and stayed in Ungasan.

In December 2021, SAN reportedly left his wife and daughter to work in Malaysia and later went back to Russia.

“LN knew that she and her daughter could only stay for 30 days [since arrival] and her stay permit had expired in August 2019. However, her husband always convinced her that all visa documents would be taken care of by him and everything would be all right,” the Head of the Bali Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Jamaruli Manihuruk, said today.

Jamaruli added that SAN never returned to Indonesia and could not be contacted at all. LN finally told the authorities about her situation on April 4, 2022 after she ran out of money.

As she could not afford plane tickets back home, LN stayed in an immigration detention center with her daughter for six days until her friends raised enough money for her.

“Finally they could be deported after getting PCR tests and the results came back negative,” said Jamaruli.

LN and VN booked Turkish Airlines and flew out of the Ngurah Rai International Airport at 9:49pm last night, heading to Moscow via Istanbul. Authorities say that LN and VN are not allowed to return to Indonesia for the next six months for the permit violation.
