Governor says daily case spikes in Bali ‘still tolerable’
Bali Governor Wayan Koster said recent spikes in daily cases can be traced back to the year-end holiday, but claims the rise is “still tolerable” despite these being some of the highest numbers the province has seen since the beginning of the pandemic.
“We have been following the fact that there are increasing cases due to [year-end holiday] but it’s still within tolerable limits,” Koster said during a press conference yesterday.
“I already predicted that after [year-end holiday] there will be many positive cases. It turned out to be true, within these few weeks, positive cases have sharply increased.”
Bali reported its highest single-day spike on Tuesday, with 350 COVID-19 cases. This was followed with 268 cases on Wednesday and 297 cases on Thursday, which brings the provincial total to 20,552.
Officials have yet to consider any policy changes with regards to COVID-19, Koster added, and said ongoing new restrictions put in place by the central government, known as Enforcement of Restrictions on Public Activities (PPKM), are going well.
