Would you steal for love? Sanitation worker arrested for stealing Bali villa’s fridge for his girlfriend
Some people will do anything for love. For one Balinese man, “anything” apparently includes stealing a refrigerator from a villa in Gianyar for his girlfriend.
According to a report from Bali Express, the case began with police received a report from a man named Sang Made Pramana, who went to the authorities after he realized that the fridge in his father’s villa was missing.
The police immediately conducted an investigation, and found footage from a surveillance camera at a nearby hotel documenting the alleged crime.
The footage reportedly caught 33-year-old I Made Murta Adi, aka Gedu, who works as a sanitation worker, stealing the fridge in the middle of the night, and then putting it in a pickup truck. That was enough evidence for police to arrest him later that same day.
“The stolen fridge was a gift for his girlfriend. For the time being, she remains a witness, not a suspect. We are still looking into the matter, whether she might be involved in the act or otherwise,” Payangan Police chief, I Gede Sudyatmaja, said, as quoted by Bali Express.
Under Indonesia’s criminal code, Gedu could face up to seven years in prison for the alleged theft.
